JOYCE YANG TO OPEN NASHVILLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA’S 2013–14 SEASON
Joyce Yang is a featured soloist in the Nashville Symphony Orchestra’s opening night program, entitled “Russian Spectacular.” An evening of Russian symphonic favorites including Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, the concert sees Yang in a performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Music director Giancarlo Guerrero leads three performances from September 5 to 7.
Joyce’s 2013–14 season has a distinctly Russian theme, with performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerti Nos. 2, 3, and 4, thus completing her multi-season Rachmaninov concerto cycle. Her March 11 Avie release, Wild Dreams, features virtuosic transcriptions of Rachmaninov songs by pianist Earl Wild (1915–2010).
